| Rural Broadband
The high cost of reaching rural subscribers using DSL or cable has hindered service providers' ability to deliver broadband services to this unserved market. With SOMA solutions, service providers can now reach rural subscribers using a wireless infrastructure that delivers wireline performance.
Built on a fully converged, all-IP architecture, SOMA solutions allow service providers to offer simultaneous multimedia services. Because service quality is not compromised by distance or terrain, rural subscribers enjoy the same high-quality data, voice, video and mobile services available to other broadband subscribers.
SOMA solutions can also be deployed in rural markets far more quickly and at far less cost than traditional wireline infrastructures. A single SOMA FlexMAX™ base station supports thousands of subscribers over a wide area, significantly reducing service providers’ capital investments and ongoing maintenance costs.
SOMA FlexMAX base stations and subscriber gateways are among the few that support the lower 700MHz spectrum band. SOMA also supports five additional licensed bands, ranging from 1098 to 3.5GHz.
In the U.S., SOMA solutions have been fully certified through the Rural Utilities Services (RUS) arm of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. This program is targeted specifically at service providers offering telecommunications services to rural areas. |
